Ok, as promised, here are some pictures from my first couple of weeks here in Mysore. Enjoy!
Sights around the neighborhood:
Sights around the neighborhood:
Neighborhood Park |
Small Ganesha shrine that I found tucked away in a corner of that park (that's not trash at the base, those are offerings) |
Dad, this one is for you...guess what that face is...a "post box!" |
Pretty new flowers |
Street sign |
Shiva and Ganesha above the Ganesha shrine at the Krishna Temple |
Krishna |
Hanuman |
Lakshmi |
Shiva |
Adishesa, the serpent that Vishnu rests on |
Krishna Temple Complex (Krishna shrine is behind the gold rod, Hanuman is to the right) |
Decorated tree |
Darice, these are for you, some of the houses in the neighborhood :-) |
This sweet girl (named Durga) often meets me on the street and walks to my apartment with me at night :-) |
The evolution of a coconut: beginning stages are those little acorn-like pods at the edges |
Some more houses |
Sights on one of the main roads: onion and garlic cart |
Fruit and veggie carts |
Cow in the street :) |
Shakti Motorcycle |
Siblings |
Mom and baby cow |
Fruit bike, he rides up and down the streets and people come right out of their houses to buy the fruit |
Domino's fleet of delivery bikes (p.s. Pizza Hut is just across the street, lol...though no delivery bikes) |
India's traffic control--large speed bumps that force people to slow down...unless you're on a bike, then you go around, lol |
This fruit & veggie vendor was so kind, I felt like a kid pointing to every unfamiliar item, saying, "What is this?!" That's what he's doing in this picture :-) |
Hey Tara, I like the pics of the houses, animals and I love how they deliver Pizza at dominos and not pizza hut. I am not surprised its on Bikes cause it probably is faster but I bet pizza hut stopped doing it cause they had too many injuries to delivery guys driving too fast or something.

Ha Ha! Now that`s a mailbox! The houses looked nice as well. These are all ( pictures ) relativly close to where you`re staying? The area looks real nice, and, to the surprise of no one who knows you, you`ve made a four-legged friend lol! love Da
ReplyDeleteHi Dad! Most of the houses are all pretty close to where I am staying. I think the Gokulam neighborhood is a bit more on the affluent side of society, so not all of Mysore (I think) looks like this. Some of the street scenes are just down the main road from me, and some were a little bit more of a walk (like the Domino's picture, that is a good 15-20 minute walk from my apt).
DeleteHahaha... I loved the Dominoes Pizza delivery bikes!!! Some of those houses were really nice! I love how they are so colorful - do the colors have meaning? Do they 'decorate' trees for a particular reason? I remember on your first trip they drew beautiful designs on the ground. Glad you're feeling up to getting out and about and getting some photos!!! Love you! xoxo ~Donna
ReplyDeleteHey Donna. I don't think the colors on the houses have any significance, they just like things colorful out here. The tree decoration might have some meaning, but I don't know what. They still draw beautiful designs on the ground in the morning, it's a traditional Hindu custom. I've taken tons of pictures of those and was going to put them up on a separate blog post.
